I have a thing for green, so I had to make a gren coat - a gorgeous green Clare Coat from Closet Case Patterns.

The Clare Coat pattern is from canadian Closet Case Files, and it has two options with same basic cut. I made model A with the high collar and mild degree of asymmetry. Model B is without collar and has a zip closure with a more asymmetric closure. B is on the maybe list for a lighter coat for spring/fall.

Clare can seem a bit overwhelming at first glance, because there is a lot of parts to be traced, cut and pressed.
The only way ahead is to start from the beginning and work you way through it. It took me a couple of hours or three from I grabbed the pencil until I was preparing to sew.

I didn't make any alterations, so what you see is exactly as it is - in a size 8 (38).

A coat is not an easy garmet to sew, but Clare, however, is suitable for a first time coat project, due to the rather simple cut and level of details, but also because the instructions are very detailed and thorough.
It's such a pleasure when everything is a perfect match and makes sense all way through.

Besides from that, Heather (the woman behind Closet Case), made a sew along covered in a series of blog posts with very detailed images and descriptions of the process of making Clare. You can find it here >

With all the best recommendations, you can put Clare on your to sew list. And if it is your first coat project, there is no need to worry - you'll get all the help you need to make a perfect coat.

Until you have your own Clare, you can enjoy looking at mine. Or you can Or you can Google or check instagram for more beautiful Clare Coats, if you need a final shot of inspiration to get started with your own.

Under the coat you can see the lovely neck of Talvikki from Named Clothing. I'm pretty much in love with this one, and I have a couple more on their way. This one is made in a ponte - same as the skirt I am wearing, which is Shadi from Named Clothing.
